Review of Poor Economics

Poor Economics: "A radical rethinking of the way we fight global poverty". Recently I finished reading Disposable People by Kevin Bales and this was the next one I dove into. There were things I really liked about Poor Economics. It was really eye opening to see just how complicated every problem they approached was. Solutions that are formed in the West without a deeper understanding of the developing world are not useful is one thing I have come away with after reading this book. Last year we ran a human trafficking awareness event called 'Freedom for Nepal'. We had the owner of one of our favorite freedom businesses, Five14 Nepal, share about their work in Nepal. They ordered 150 black t-shirts for their students for the next year. They turned out beautifully and are awesome shirts! It was so rewarding to see an organization choosing to partner with freedom. The investment of getting the shirts was higher, they could have saved money going somewhere else, but their values led them in making the decision to have their shirts made ethically. We hope to continue to...
Review of Disposable People

Disposable People by Kevin Bales is a book about modern day slavery. In it Kevin shares about slavery around the world in places like: Brazil, Thailand, Mauritania, Pakistan, and India. He gives a lot of detail about what this new slavery looks like and how people get trapped in it. This book helped continue to educate me regarding modern day slavery. It wasn't easy to read about the lives of those in slavery, but it does continue to remind you that this is a reality for many people in our world today. This book will motivate you to be part of...
